Who says the nerds and the jocks aren't part of the same Venn Diagram? CBS today announced that its CBS All Access subscription service enjoyed "a record-breaking weekend" thanks to the Season 2 premiere of Star Trek: Discovery and the AFC Championship Game.

While CBS didn't give any actual subscription numbers, it did say that it added more subscribers in a single weekend than it had done previously, beating the weekend of the Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 premiere by a whopping 72 percent. (Of course, CBS All Access has more original programming than it did then, and also more name recognition.)

As for the football game (New England is going back to the Super Bowl, in case you somehow missed the news), CBS says it's the most streamed game on All Access so far (which should hardly be surprising) and surpassed last year's AFC Championship by 158 percent in streams, 139 percent in time spent watching, and 103 percent in average minute audience.

The second season of Star Trek: Discovery is available now, with new episodes being released at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time every Thursday. All other episodes are available on-demand as well.
