Netflix once again is coming to the aid of another fallen series. This time it's Designated Survivor, which was killed off by ABC back in the spring of 2018. The political drama (which sounds a little silly given today's world) features Kiefer Sutherland as President Tom Kirkland, who ascended to the throne after a terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol. Things got pretty unbelievable from there, yet here we are.

Netflix has ordered 10 episodes, which will go into production later this year and launch sometime in 2019.

The gist? President Kirkland is going to have to do that thing he's not had to do — campaign. Says Netflix: "What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today's world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and 'fake news.' Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance."

OK, then.

Sutherland says he was happy to come back. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play President Kirkman for season 3 of 'Designated Survivor' with Netflix, eOne and (new showrunner) Neal Baer," the veteran actor said in the Netflix press release. "I believe this format will allow us to continue to delve deeply into storylines and issues concerning the American electorate that were not previously possible."

The first two seasons of Designated Survivor will land on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada this fall.
