What you need to know

• Disney+ arrives on November 12, 2019.

• Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

• No release date for the show was announced.

• You can expect to see the "hello there" meme a lot in the coming weeks.

Disney is really coming out with all blasters firing at their D23 Expo this week as it brings us news of more shows for its Disney+ streaming service . Hot on the heels of a trailer for the Mandorlian, Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, brought a clearly giddy Ewan McGregor onto the stage and asked him if he would be playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again. From the leaked footage it's clear he has wanted to say it for ages and as he looks over the crowd you can hear the excitement as he says "yes."

For a huge generation of people, Ewan's version of Obi-wan was the epitome of what it meant to be a Jedi. Originally played by Sir Alec Guinness in the original trilogy of movies, Kenobi was the last survivor of the Jedi massacres that led to the rise of the empire. When episodes 1, 2, and, 3 appeared McGregor played a younger version of the character and we saw him grow with Kenobi and embody him in a way that Guinness perhaps couldn't. McGregor's Obi-Wan was a dashing, charismatic hero, with a lot of physicality played into the role.

We don't know when will see Obi-Wan come to the Disney+ streaming service, and I don't think it will be in time for launch. This seems to be a last-minute addition to D23 so I'm sure they will still have to make the show. Disney+ launches on November 12, 2019 and will cost as little as $6.99 a month, or $70 a year.
