What's new on Hulu in March?

With the Oscars set wrap up the 2023 movie year this month, Hulu is helping to celebrate by handling the US streaming premiere for two Best Picture nominees; but there are also a number of classic movies being added to the library this month. Also, there are some exciting Hulu originals coming in March, including a big best-seller adaptation and a documentary about a legendary arts and culture festival.

The full slate of what's coming to Hulu is below, but here are the titles that we are most excited to stream this month.

Best movie on Hulu in March: The Wrestler (March 1)

While March is going to see Hulu host the streaming debut of Best Picture nominees Anatomy of a Fall (March 22) and Poor Things (March 7), a lot has been written about those movies recently. Instead, wanted to use this space to highlight a movie that didn't get the amount of Oscar love that it probably should have.

With all respect to Sean Penn’s great work in Milk, Mickey Rourke's loss of Best Actor for his role in The Wrestler remains one of my biggest Oscar disappointments. Rourke is unbelievable as an aging wrestler trying to hold onto the sport he has given his life to, while also trying to make up for the mistakes of his past. It belongs among the best performances of the 21st century and is a must-see if you haven't yet.

Some of the other highlights for you this month include movies from 2024 Oscar-nominee Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), including Batman Begins, Dunkirk and Inception. Also excited to rewatch A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Best TV show on Hulu in March: We Were the Lucky Ones (March 28)

One of our spring TV shows to keep an eye out for, We Were the Lucky Ones, is adapted from the best-selling book from Georgia Hunter, which recounts the tale of a real-life family that was torn apart during World War II and their attempts to escape the horrors of the Holocaust and be reunited. Logan Lerman and Joey King lead the way in what is sure to be an epic and emotional series.

And if you're excited to catch some of the returning broadcast shows in March, Hulu is going to be the next-day streaming home for shows like 9-1-1 season 7, Grey's Anatomy season 20 and The Masked Singer season 11.

Best documentary on Hulu in March: Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told (March 21)

Find out how a Black college cookout in Atlanta eventually grew to become a traffic-stopping, city-shuttering, massive event in the 80s and 90s. Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told features interviews with several big names — 21 Savage, Lil Jon, Killer Mike, Jalen Rose and more — to talk about the event known to celebrate and promote Black excellence, joy and fortitude.

Another great doc on the service to watch if you're interested is 2013's Blackfish about killer whales.
