Luke Perry — part of the seismic shift in Fox Television through the 1990s drama Beverly Hills 90210, and more recently with the Riverdale series — has died after suffering a "massive stroke" on Feb. 27. He was 52 years old.
It's hard to overstate the popularity of 90210, which ran 10 seasons on Fox from 1990 to 2000. (Perry took a bit of a break midway, however.) It followed the high school lives of Brenda and Brandon Walsh (Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley) — and their friends through an ensemble cast — as they moved from Minneapolis to California, and the show tackled pretty much every teenage social issue you can imagine.
"[Perry] was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends," his rep said in a statement. "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time."
Riverdale is a modern adaption of the Archie Comics world, with Perry playing Archie's father.
Both 90210 and Riverdale are available streaming. The former is available on Amazon Prime Video and Hulu. The latter is available on Amazon Video.
