Sling TV

Sling today announced a new service that aims to make it easier to convert Roku users into paying customers by allowing for a free trial without having to fork over a credit card number. (Much like Roku current does with its own "My Roku" channel.)

Load up the Sling TV app on Roku and choose "Browse as guest" and you'll be able to do the following from the My TV section:

  • Watch free episodes of shows like Shameless, The Big Interview with Dan Rather, Heartland, and others.
  • Subscribe to pay-per-view events and movies, including UFC — with no subscription required
  • Subscribe to a la carte channels without requiring a base subscription with Sling.

Sling also is upgrading its search capability (which was sorely needed), showing popular searches first, and breaking things down into obvious categories like "Top results," "movies," "shows" and "channels."

The new search is available now on Android TV, Amazon and Roku devices, with more coming down the road.

And Sling also has added a new feature for binge-watchers that'll quickly take you to the next episode as one ends. Huzzah.
