Sony VPLVW295ES projector The Sony VPL-VW295ES projector, which sports 1,500 lumens and costs a mere $4,999 at Amazon.

Sony this week announced three new 4K projectors aimed at the home market. Sony has been one of the leading manufacturers producing 4K projectors, with each year bringing lower prices, more capable projectors, or — usually — both. OK, the lower prices thing is a bit relative, as the least expensive in this group still costs more than most monthly mortgage payments. But these are going to be damned good projectors.

Let's take a look.

Sony VPL-VW295ES

The least expensive is these is the VPL-VW295ES, priced at a cool $4,999. That gets you 1,500 lumens of brightness, bright enough for nighttime watching. The lens produces a native 4K HDR10 image, and both of the HDMI 2.0 ports allow for 4K resolution at 60 frames per seconds, perfect for gamers. The lamp is good for about 6,000 hours of use, and you get 3D capability if you desire. Finally, there's a USB-A port on the projector itself for powering a streaming stick. The projector doesn't offer its own 3.5mm or optical audio-out port, so you'll to route things correctly from your receiver to get better sound.

The VPL-VW295ES will be available in the U.S. and Canada in October.

Sony VPL-VW695ESNext up we have the VPL-VW695ES, priced at $9,999. Everything we said about the less expensive VPL-VW295ES above applies here, but this model is a bit brighter at 1,800 lumens. That'll be easier to see than the previous model, but you'll still wanted a dedicate, dark room to really be able to see the picture. The VPL-VW695ES will be available in the U.S. and Canada in October.

Son y VPL-VW995ESFinally, we have the VPL-VW995ES, clocking in at $35,000. This one uses a laser instead of the lamp used in the above models, which accounts for the higher price. A laser will generally look sharper, the projector will instantly come on, and you won't have to replace a lamp in a few years. Just like the others, this has two HDMI 2.0 ports for 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, HDR10 compatibility, and 3D support. The VPL-VW995ES will be available in the U.S. and Canada in November.
