There's a lot to love about AirPlay — that's the protocol that lets you do just about anything you can do on a phone on on Apple TV. (Which, by the way, is still the best streaming box you can buy.)
But there are plenty of other times in which a Native Apple TV app is the way to go. And to glaring holes in that lineup have just been filled. Music giant Spotify finally (and we're not using that word loosely) has a native Apple TV app, as does the livestreaming service Twitch.
That means you can listen to Spotify on whatever stereo system you have hooked up to your TV — without having to go through your phone to do it. (We'd still recommend not using the Apple TV remote for it either, but that's a whole different issue.)
The inclusion of Twitch is another big win for Apple TV, and not just because livestreaming of e-sports is a huge deal these days. Twitch is getting its fair share of traditional video streaming as well, including exclusive rights for USA Basketball, as well as the NFL Thursday Night Football schedule via Amazon.
To snag Spotify or Twitch for Apple TV, you'll need tvOS 13 (which is available now), and you'll need to just search out the apps in the app store.
Simply the best.
Even if you're not all-in on the Apple ecosystem, this remains the best streaming box you can buy because of the breadth of features and ease of use.
