TCL 6-Series

If you're like us and you've been waiting on the price for the new TCL 6 Series displays — these are the ones with the Roku operating system baked in — you're in luck. We finally have pricing information, and preorders are beginning. (They officially become available May 1.)

The 55-inch 6 Series (which is Model 55R617) will cost $650. The 65-inch version (65R617) takes things up a bit to $999.

What's the big deal about these screens? For starters, these are both 4K UHD models. And then there's the matter of contrast control zones — basically more is better because they allow for greater control over which parts of the screen get dark versus which parts are bright. The The 55-inch model will have 96 contrast control zones, and the 65-inch model sports 120.

These sets should also launch with the latest version of the Roku operating system, which the company just announced. Roku OS 8.1 will bring enhanced voice search to the UK, as well as private listening on up to four additional devices.

But, really, it's the TCL TV that's the big seller here. And we can't wait to get our hands on one.
