If you've been hoping and praying that we'll one day be able to watch movies at home at the same time as they're avialable in theaters — well, today is not that day. But today is the day on which the AMC Theaters chain announced that it'll start offering movies on-demand at home. That's not really the same thing, but it does give you another option for your digital movie needs. And options are good.

You'll be able to rent or buy movies through the AMC Theaters website, its mobile app on Andorid or iOS, or on Roku or other smart TVs.

Why use this over, say, any other service? If you're a frequent movie-goer, it might make sense, as you'll earn AMC Stubs points that you can redeem once you're back at the theater.

From the presser:

AMC has agreements with every major Hollywood studio to make selections of their movies available for digital rental and purchase, including both new release and popular catalogue movies. New releases will become available on AMC Theatres On Demand the same time they are available digitally nationwide, following the traditional theatrical window set by each studio for each movie.

As part of a first-ever cross-platform marketing partnership between AMC Theatres and AMC Networks (Nasdaq:AMCX), AMC Stubs members will also be able to find movies from AMC Networks' IFC Films and RLJE Films catalogues on the AMC Theatres On Demand platform beginning in late 2019. Through the partnership, AMC Theatres will also promote AMC Networks' targeted streaming services Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now and UMC directly to moviegoers, including more than 20 million AMC Stubs households.

One last bonus: There's a buy-one-get-three-free deal on Paramount movies, which is nice.
