GGG vs. Derevyanchenko — The Main Event Preview

Gennadiy "GGG" Golovkin (31-1-1) is one of the premiere middleweight boxers fighting today, and now he's fighting for his legacy and a bit of revenge. Golovkin is seeking to become a two time world champion at middleweight, after a long seven year title run. An amazing 90% of his victories came by knockouts, which along with his flashy personality provides good reason for the nickname he's given his fight career — "The Big Drama Show". Everything was going great until a young fighter named Saul "Canelo" Alvarez came along.

The two "GGG" vs. Canelo fights are legendary, with a controversial draw, and a majority decision for Alvarez that cost Golovkin his titles. Everyone agrees these two close fights were boxing at its best, and several experts agree with Golovkin that he won at least one fight, and maybe both. "GGG", his promoters, DAZN, and boxing fans everywhere have been asking for a third fight in this series, but Canelo has had other plans. For now, "GGG" hopes to keep collecting wins, and in this fight he can collect the vacant IBF and IBO World titles as well. Then, he has to hope that Canelo will be ready to complete a trilogy.

Sergiy "The Technician" Derevyanchenko (13-1) is a younger fighter with a less impressive fight resume, but he still scares Golovkin. This may be the biggest fight of Derevyanchenko's career, but it isn't his first championship fight. After starting out as a pro with twelve straight wins, Sergiy faced Daniel Jacobs for the IBF World middleweight championship. He lost a split decision, but going the distance against the impressive opponent helped land this shot. Derevyanchenko is shorter than "GGG", and has a smaller reach but don't completely discount him because Golovkin hasn't either.
