Herring vs. Roach — The Main Event Preview

Jamel "Semper Fi" Herring (20-2) is a hero in life and in boxing, and he's faced more pain and danger outside of the ring than in it. Herring served in the United States Marine Corps for two tours of active duty. This excellent profile by Mark Kriegel of ESPN details his experiences as a gunner, seeing others killed in combat, and dealing with the tragic loss of his infant daughter after returning home. Somehow Herring kept boxing as his constant, with a promising career that has built to a WBO World title. Now Herring is defending his title for the first time, and thinking of the fighter he saw in action last weekend.

Herring and Roach Jr. Face off at Press ConferenceSource: @trboxing on Twitter

Herring would like to unify titles at Junior Lightweight by facing Miguel Berchelt, and they are both promoted by Top Rank so it should be doable, but Berchelt has declined offers so far. Until then, Herring hopes to keep winning until the biggest shot comes his way.

Lamont Roach Jr. (19-0-1) is an undefeated young boxer, and a quick rising star in the sport. Roach has held lower level titles, including International and NABO regional belts as he climbs the ranks among Junior Lightweights. Roach is ten years younger than Herring, which could give him an edge in stamina if he is well conditioned. However, he will have to deal with being three inches shorter, and having two inches less in reach compared to Herring. A win this weekend would earn Roach more than just a world title. He would quickly flip from underrated up-and-comer into the fighter everyone is talking about.

How to watch Herring vs. Roach with a VPN if you're outside the United States

We've all been there. You're traveling outside of the United States, or stationed overseas but you still want to watch your favorite Top Rank Boxing. Streaming the fights can turn from a one-two combination to being flat on the canvus. It's all because streaming services often block their feeds if you're not in America. Blame the lawyers, contracts, or greedy fat cats!

There is a way to get things working again by using a VPN. Those three little letters mean "Virtual Private Network," and that sends your internet traffic from wherever you are through a specific set of servers. Then it pops your internet traffic back into the United States even while you're abroad. That means you can sail away while your internet stays on the shores of the USA.

Does a VPN sound appealing to you? It's easy to get a great one with subscription services that, for a few bucks a month, tunnel your traffic through your choice of a variety of locations. It can also give you security and peace of mind on open WiFi connections, because a VPN protects you against snoopers on any network. Give one a try to see if it works for you, and then put it to good use. Even enjoy your football from a half a world away.
