Bellator takes center stage for fans of MMA this Saturday Night This weekend's event is headlined by the second set of four matches in the first round of the new Featherweight World Grand Prix. These top fighters will be battling it out for a championship belt and a big cash prize. You can watch Bellator 228 featuring Pitbull vs. Archuleta only on DAZN.

Bellator 228 is being held at The Forum in Inglewood, CA on Saturday, Sept. 28. The live broadcast is on DAZN, and it begins with the Prelims at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time, followed by the Main card including Pitbull vs. Archuleta beginning at 10 p.m. Eastern.

The centerpiece of Bellator 228 is the continuation of the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix Tournament. Sixteen fighters started this playoff bracket, and the man who wins four matches in a row will be crowned the undisputed Bellator Featherweight champion. This eventual winner will also receive a $1 million prize, so the stakes are high.

Patricio "Pitbull" Freire (29-4) is the current Bellator Featherweight Champion, so he puts his title on the line every match he fights in this grand prix. Pitbull is also Bellator Lightweight World Champ, as he defeated Michael Chandler for the title back in May. Patricio's brother Patricky Freire is also an MMA fighter in Bellator, and they fight as the "Pitbull Brothers", with both using the same nickname. Pitbull has been with Bellator since almost the very beginning, as he made his debut with the promotion in Bellator 15 back in 2010. Now the Brazilian Muay Thai fighter faces a huge challenge in both the Grand Prix and his opponent, Juan Archuleta.

Juan "Spaniard" Archuleta (23-1) is has won 18 straight fights, but he still considers himself underrated. That could be partially because he's fought for so long in smaller promotions like Gladiator Challenge and King of the Cage. He's only been fighting in Bellator for the last 18 months, but he's won against the fighters put in front of him. Archuleta has one thing in common with Pitbull, as they both have been fighting at multiple weight classes in Bellator. Archuleta has wins at both Featherweight and Bantamweight, so where Pitbull has gone up in weight, he's gone down. What will happen when they meet in the middle, in the biggest match of Archuleta's career?

  • Ádám Borics def. Pat Curran, TKO
  • Roberto Carvalho def. Sam Sicilia, Submission
  • Emmanuel Sanchez def. Tywan Claxton, Submission

Bellator 228 will also feature the live draw for the next round of the Featherweight Grand Prix. Once the matches are over, and the eight competitors are set, the fighters will draw numbers. The best draw will get to pick his opponent for the next round, which makes this much more interesting than a traditional ranked bracket. Will fighters play it safe, or pick a harder opponent or even a shot at the title right away? If you stick around after the main event, you can find out.
